REFINING
Refining
Around the world, Elliott turbo machinery plays a critical role in the complex processes of refining crude oil into commercial energy products such as gasoline, jet fuel, fuel oils, asphalt, coke and other byproducts.

In its raw state, crude oil makes inefficient use of the energy trapped within. Refining maximizes the energy potential by separating the mixture of hydrocarbons that comprise crude oil through the process of fractional distillation. Once the component hydrocarbons have been released, a variety of methods are used to produce the desired product or products. Elliott rotating equipment is used in all of these processes and in related industries such as petrochemical processing that use refinery byproducts to make intermediate and derivative products.

Over the years, Elliott has brought many advances to refining processes. In the 1950s, Elliott pioneered development of the Fluidized Catalytic Cracker (FCC) power recovery expander. Elliott installed the first successful, continuously operating power recovery expander in 1963. Due to abrasive catalyst particulates in the flue gas, equipment design and reliability are critical in successful FCC expander installations. The innovative engineering in Elliott's expander product line has produced the most rugged, dependable and durable units in the industry. Elliott boasts the longest blade life of any manufacturer. In fact, we recently overhauled a unit that had, incredibly, operated for ten years with the same blades.

Depending on the end products, refineries can have many different configurations and a wide range of flow, pressure and operating requirements. In this complex environment, Elliott has the expertise and a full range of proven solutions to meet processing demands.
